Patna: Patna’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) held a workshop on Monday focusing on targeted temperature management (TTM) and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) for critically ill patients.
The programme, organised by the department of emergency medicine, was inaugurated by Brig Dr R Agrawal, executive director of AIIMS Patna, who said the initiative would pave the way for future research at the institute. “This workshop is a significant step towards advancing emergency care,” he added.
Senior faculty including Dr Punam Pd Bhadani, dean of academics, Dr Anup Kumar, medical superintendent, Dr Ruchi Sinha, dean of student affairs, deputy director administration Nilotapal Bal and principal of the nursing college, Dr Ratish Nair, were also present.
More than 50 residents and nursing staff from various intensive care units attended the training, which offered hands-on experience in advanced emergency procedures. Experts Dr Pradip Barde from AIIMS Rajkot and Dr Vaibhav Dande from Mumbai joined the session online.
Targeted temperature management, which helps stabilise patients who remain unconscious after surviving cardiac arrest, was highlighted as a key intervention. Dr Divendu Bhushan, head of the emergency medicine department, underlined the growing importance of eCPR, particularly in cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
