New Delhi: Air India and Air India Express have announced a fuel surcharge on flight tickets in response to rising aviation fuel prices amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The surcharge will come into effect from March 12 and will apply to both domestic and international routes.
Under the revised pricing, passengers travelling on domestic flights and routes within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region will pay an additional Rs 399 per ticket as a fuel surcharge.
For international flights, the surcharge will vary depending on the destination. Passengers travelling to West Asia will pay an additional $10, while those flying to Africa will face a surcharge of $90. Flights to Southeast Asia will include an extra $60 charge.
The changes will apply to all affected routes from March 12, including flights to destinations such as Singapore.
Air India group today announced a phased expansion of a fuel surcharge on its domestic and international routes, necessitated by the steep rise in jet fuel prices arising from the geopolitical situation in the Gulf region.

Airlines said the decision was taken after a sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, which account for a significant portion of airline operating costs.
The increase in fuel costs has been linked to instability in global energy markets amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The broader energy market has also seen price pressures in India. LPG prices have reportedly increased by around Rs 60 for domestic cylinders, while commercial cylinders have seen a rise of about Rs 115.
Industry officials said the increase in gas prices and disruptions in the supply of commercial cylinders have affected businesses in several cities, particularly hotels and restaurants that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.
Analysts say the aviation sector remains highly sensitive to fluctuations in fuel prices, and airlines often adjust surcharges to offset rising operational costs.
