Patna: The Bihar government has transferred the investigation into an Arms Act case involving JD(U) MLA Anant Singh to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), officials said on Friday.
Gopalganj superintendent of police Vinay Tiwari confirmed that the case diary and related documents had been formally handed over to the CID for further investigation.
Case linked to event in Gopalganj
The case stems from an event held earlier this month in Semraon village under the Mirganj police station area in Gopalganj district.
According to police, Singh attended a sacred thread ceremony where supporters were allegedly seen openly displaying firearms. Videos purportedly showing the incident later circulated on social media.
After taking cognisance of the footage, Mirganj police registered an FIR against Anant Singh, singer Gunjan Singh and seven others under provisions of the Arms Act.
Notice issued during investigation
During the initial investigation, Gopalganj police had issued notices asking Singh and others to appear before authorities by May 15 with their weapons and related licence documents for verification and ballistic examination.
Officials said the accused did not appear before police within the stipulated period.
Police sought addition of new charges
Following the alleged non-compliance, local police moved a court seeking the addition of further sections to the FIR.
Officials said the CID would now re-examine evidence and continue the investigation from its side.
Anticipatory bail plea due for hearing
Anant Singh’s anticipatory bail petition in the case is scheduled to come up for hearing before the special MP-MLA court in Gopalganj on May 30.
The matter remains under judicial consideration as the CID begins its inquiry into the allegations.
