Patna: Bihar’s political theatre is heating up as former Mokama MLA and local strongman Anant Singh has sought divine blessings before formally entering the fray. Singh, a veteran politician with a long association with the constituency, filed his nomination for the Mokama Assembly seat under the Janata Dal (United) banner, despite the party yet to officially announce its candidates.
Ahead of the filing, Singh visited a temple to perform puja, a ritual underscoring his appeal to faith and tradition. Photographs from the event show hundreds of supporters gathered at the temple, reflecting the enduring influence of Singh in the region.
Singh, often referred to locally as Chhote Sarkar, has hosted special food arrangements for his supporters at his residence, and encouraged them to attend the nomination in large numbers. A five-time MLA from Mokama, he exuded confidence in media interactions, signalling his intention to reclaim his traditional seat.
In a twist of political alignments, Singh’s wife, Neelam Devi, had won Mokama on an RJD ticket in 2020 but has since shifted her support to the NDA government. This year, Singh has stepped forward himself, marking a new chapter in the constituency’s complex political landscape.
