Patna: Posters accusing political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor of corruption appeared across Patna on Monday, sparking controversy ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar.
The anonymous posters, pasted at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) office and several busy intersections, claim Kishor used campaign funds to purchase land worth Rs 32 crore in the city. They also allege that Kishor is “more corrupt than those convicted in the fodder scam” and describe his Jan Suraj movement as a hub of criminals and miscreants. Two of his associates, Rambali Chandravanshi and Kishore Munna, were named in the posters with criminal accusations.
This is the first time posters targeting Kishor have appeared in the state capital. The timing coincides with his recent criticism of Nitish Kumar’s government, including attacks on minister Ashok Choudhary and deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary.
The campaign has provoked sharp political reactions. BJP spokesperson Kunal Krishna accused Kishor of acting as “Lalu Yadav’s B-team” and questioned the source of his wealth. Congress spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari suggested Kishor may have orchestrated the campaign himself to attract publicity, calling him “a shrewd politician”.
Kishor rejected the allegations, insisting his earnings were legitimate. “In the last three years, I have earned Rs 241 crore legally and paid all due taxes. Out of this, I contributed Rs 98 crore to Jan Suraj,” he said. He invited scrutiny by the Enforcement Directorate or the Central Bureau of Investigation if required. Poster politics has long been a feature of Bihar’s election season, with both attacks and praise plastered across city walls.
