Aurangabad: A large number of people in Aurangabad are failing to get their driving licences due to a new computerised driving test system. The traffic training institute in the Jasoiya industrial area has a high-tech driving track where learners are tested through cameras and computer systems. These systems check how well a person drives and whether they know traffic rules.
From January to July 2025, only 224 people have passed this test and received their licences. Out of them, only one is a woman. The rest of the applicants failed to clear the test. As per the rules, only those who pass the computerised track test can apply for a licence at the District Transport Office. Those who fail are not given a licence.
District Transport Officer Shailesh Kumar Das said that this system ensures only skilled drivers get licences. He added that training and residential facilities are also available at the institute. Learners are given a course and then taught to drive before taking the test. People who fail are allowed to try again.
In past years, the number of people getting licences has also been low. In 2024, 399 people passed. In 2023, 511 passed. In 2022, 740 licences were issued. Most of the successful candidates have been men, with only a small number of women passing the test.
