Patna: Patna’s Bairiya bus stand is set to undergo a major transformation from September, with plans to expand the terminal and introduce modern facilities for passengers.
The redevelopment will include a new five-acre bus yard, capable of accommodating 114 buses at once. Officials have named the facility the “Art of Fuel Station”, with the aim of ending the long-standing issue of buses clogging roadside traffic.
As part of the project, the bus stand complex will also feature a 3,000 sq metre petrol pump for refuelling, three public toilets, a baby care centre and a clean drinking water facility. Roads within the terminal will be 15 metres wide and fitted with street lighting to allow round-the-clock bus operations.
For passengers, five new shops covering 100 sq metres will be built to provide essential goods, while the entire terminal will be covered with a shed to protect travellers from the sun and rain.
The expansion will also extend the terminal towards Badshahi Nala, with a 300-metre four-lane road to be constructed over the drain. Officials said this will both ease congestion and improve drainage, which currently suffers from waterlogging.
