Patna: Bihar’s emergency response service Dial-112 is steadily earning the trust of people across the state. In situations of danger, accidents or crime, quick help can make a big difference. According to police headquarters, Bihar now ranks second in the country for Dial-112 response time. On average, police teams reach the caller within 12 minutes, which is a major achievement for a large and densely populated state like Bihar. Over the last three years, around 50 lakh people have received timely help through this service, both in cities and in remote villages.
The Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, said that only Chandigarh performs better than Bihar in terms of response time. As soon as a call is received at the control room, the nearest police vehicle is identified and alerted immediately. This quick system ensures that precious time is not lost. Police officials say that reaching the spot in about 12 minutes shows how much the emergency response system has improved in recent years.
To make this possible, a total of 1,833 Dial-112 vehicles have been deployed across Bihar. All these vehicles are equipped with GPS systems, allowing the control room to track them live. When a call comes from any district or police station area, the closest vehicle is sent without delay. This has greatly improved police reach in rural areas, where help earlier took much longer to arrive.
Special arrangements have also been made for the safety of women, children and senior citizens. Since last year, emergencies involving women are handled on a priority basis. Women can make a free call to 112 in any dangerous situation, and police teams are instructed to respond quickly. Officials believe this step has increased confidence among women to seek help without fear or hesitation.
Dial-112 is a national emergency number that can be used during accidents, crimes, medical emergencies or any kind of threat. The aim is to provide help within about 15 minutes of receiving the call. Along with this, new criminal laws are focusing on faster investigations and quicker filing of charge sheets. Digital steps like e-summons are helping improve coordination between the police and the courts.
The Bihar police force is also being strengthened through large-scale recruitment. Earlier this year, the recruitment of 21,391 constables was completed. The process to appoint nearly 20,000 more constables is currently underway, and thousands of driver constables have already been appointed. In addition, examinations for new sub-inspectors are scheduled in the coming months. Officials say these steps will further improve public safety and make emergency services even more effective across the state.
