Kishanganj: The ongoing Assembly elections in West Bengal have started affecting train services in Bihar, with stations witnessing heavy crowds and overcrowded trains. At Thakurganj railway station in Kishanganj district, a large number of passengers have gathered, all trying to board trains heading towards various destinations. The sudden rise in travel demand has created pressure on the railway system, making routine travel difficult for many.
The situation has become particularly challenging as many people are travelling to West Bengal to cast their votes before the polling date of April 23. Because of this election-related movement, trains passing through Bihar are running at full capacity. Regular passengers, who depend on these trains for daily work and travel, are finding it difficult to secure seats or even enter the coaches.
At Thakurganj station, the impact is clearly visible during peak hours in the morning and evening. Platforms are crowded, and passengers are often left waiting for long periods. In several cases, people have been forced to return home after failing to board trains. The lack of space inside coaches has added to confusion and discomfort among travellers.
Local commuters have raised concerns about the situation, saying that no extra arrangements such as additional coaches or special trains have been made to handle the sudden rush. They believe that the railway administration should take immediate steps to reduce the pressure and help daily passengers continue their journeys without disruption.
Meanwhile, railway authorities have announced some “Summer Special” trains to manage seasonal travel demand, connecting Bihar with cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. However, passengers say that more immediate action is needed to deal with the current election-driven crowding and restore normal rail services.
