Bhagalpur/Patna: Bihar’s Health Department has intensified surveillance after a 66-year-old patient tested positive for COVID-19 in Bhagalpur, marking a fresh case of the viral infection in the state.
The patient, who was undergoing treatment at a private clinic in the city, tested positive during medical investigations. Following confirmation of the infection, health authorities initiated measures to ensure appropriate treatment and prevent further transmission.
Officials stressed that there is no immediate cause for panic, but urged the public to remain vigilant and seek testing if they develop COVID-like symptoms.
Patient To Be Shifted To Dedicated COVID Ward
The Health Department is preparing to shift the patient to the COVID ward at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), where specialist doctors will oversee treatment and monitoring.
Hospital authorities informed the Health Department immediately after receiving the positive test result, triggering the state’s standard response protocols.
Contact Tracing Underway
Health officials have begun identifying and monitoring individuals who may have come into contact with the infected patient.
The department said precautionary measures are being taken to minimise the risk of further transmission while closely monitoring the patient’s condition.
Hospitals across the region have also been instructed to remain alert and implement COVID-19 protocols wherever necessary.
Public Urged To Remain Cautious
Doctors have advised people not to panic but to remain cautious, particularly if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough, cold or breathing difficulties.
Anyone developing these symptoms has been urged to undergo testing promptly and seek medical advice without delay.
Health officials also recommended wearing masks in crowded places where appropriate and maintaining good hand hygiene as a precautionary measure.

The Health Department said it is keeping the situation under close watch and will take further action if required.
Officials added that the patient’s health is being monitored continuously, while surveillance efforts will continue to assess whether additional cases emerge.
