Bihar Declares 100 Cities ODF+ as Patna Wins Promising Swachh Shehar Award

Bihar’s municipal bodies recorded major achievements under Swachh Survekshan 2024, with 100 cities declared ODF+, Patna awarded Promising Swachh Shehar, and improved waste segregation and processing across the state.

Patna: Bihar’s urban development efforts received a major boost on Monday as a presentation on the achievements of Swachh Survekshan 2024 under the Swachh Bharat Mission was given before Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar.

Officials highlighted that Bihar’s municipal bodies have significantly enhanced the state’s image in sanitation. There has been vast improvement in source segregation, with the state’s average now close to the national average. Waste processing capacity has also shown considerable growth.

In a major milestone, 100 cities in Bihar have been declared ODF+ (Open Defecation Free Plus). Gayaji Municipal Corporation achieved ODF++ status while Patna received Water+ certification.
Under the GFC Star Rating, Patna and Gaya Ji secured 3-star ratings, while Bhagalpur and Supaul were awarded 1-star ratings. Additionally, four cities from Bihar ranked within the top 20 in the Ganga Town National Ranking.

Patna was honoured with the Promising Swachh Shehar Award for its achievements in sanitation and waste management.

During the meeting, Minister Jivesh Kumar directed officials to enhance property survey facilities and holding tax collection across all municipal bodies. He also instructed for timely completion of Metro and Budko projects.

The meeting was attended by Department Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh, Special Secretary Vijay Prakash Meena, Secretary-cum-Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar, Joint Secretary Abhilash Sharma, and other senior departmental officers.
