Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has approved the establishment of 66 motor vehicle driving training centres across 37 districts, with Aurangabad excluded from the current expansion. Of the approved centres, 38 have already been completed, while work on the remaining centres is progressing.
Once all 66 centres become operational, the network is expected to provide driving training to around 1.18 lakh people every year. The expansion is aimed at increasing access to structured motor vehicle driving training across the state.
Patna And Muzaffarpur To Get Four Centres Each
Patna and Muzaffarpur will have the highest number of approved centres, with four centres each. Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Gaya, Purnia and Madhubani have been approved for three centres each.
The remaining districts covered by the programme will also see the development of training centres as part of the wider expansion of driving-training infrastructure in the state.
Government Subsidy Of Up To Rs 20 Lakh
To encourage the establishment of motor vehicle driving training institutes, the state government is offering financial assistance to private institutions and individuals.
The subsidy covers 50 per cent of the project cost or a maximum of Rs 20 lakh, subject to the prescribed conditions. The assistance is intended to support key components required to establish and operate a training centre.
Under the scheme, Rs 5 lakh each is provided for construction of the building and development of a driving track. Up to Rs 2 lakh is available for purchasing equipment.
Financial assistance also includes Rs 4 lakh for two light motor vehicles and Rs 2 lakh for a four-wheeler. An additional Rs 2 lakh is provided after the training centre begins operations.
Focus On Wider Access To Driving Training
The expansion will increase the number of locations where people can receive formal driving instruction. With 66 centres planned across the state, the programme is expected to create a larger training network and provide capacity for more than one lakh trainees annually once the full network is operational.
