Patna: Mock drills simulating air raids and blackout scenarios will be conducted in six districts of Bihar, including Patna, during the third week of May, officials said.
The exercise is being organised in accordance with directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Directorate of Civil Defence acting as the nodal agency at the state level.
Preparatory Meeting Held
A review meeting involving district magistrates and superintendents of police from the identified districts was held at the disaster management department auditorium.
The meeting was chaired by Chandrashekhar Singh, secretary of the department, via video conference.
Officials said civil defence protocols require such drills to be conducted at least twice a year to strengthen emergency response systems.

Sirens, Blackouts And Public Awareness
Authorities said sirens will be sounded simultaneously across locations during the drill, and districts have been directed to ensure operational readiness of warning systems.
Officials have also been asked to coordinate with the electricity department to simulate blackout conditions effectively.
Public address systems at major intersections, police stations and fire service vehicles may be used to broadcast alerts.
Hospitals have been instructed to install blackout curtains, while awareness campaigns will be carried out to prevent panic among residents.
Wider Participation Planned
Paresh Saxena, director general-cum-commissioner of civil defence, briefed officials on operational details and urged districts to replicate best practices from previous exercises.
He called for the involvement of schools, colleges, healthcare professionals and community groups to ensure wider participation.

Districts Identified
The drills will be conducted in Patna, Kishanganj, Begusarai, Purnia, Araria and Katihar.
Officials said the exercise is aimed at improving coordination among agencies and enhancing preparedness to handle emergency situations effectively.
