Patna: The Bihar Tourism Department has approved the withdrawal and expenditure of Rs. 110.58 crore as the second and final installment for acquiring 50.50 acres of land to develop Punauradham, the birthplace of Mother Janaki, located in Sitamarhi district.
Earlier, on November 18, 2024, the State Council of Ministers approved Rs. 120.58 crore for land acquisition to facilitate new tourism development and infrastructure around the Punauradham temple. Of this, Rs. 10 crore was released to the District Officer of Sitamarhi to initiate the project. The recent approval completes the allocation for the scheme’s implementation.
Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra recently met Nripendra Mishra, Chairman and Trust Member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir Nirman Samiti, to seek guidance on developing Punauradham in line with Shri Ayodhyadham. This interaction emphasized plans to enhance Punauradham’s spiritual and cultural significance while improving facilities for devotees.
The development project aims to position Punauradham as a prominent religious tourism destination connected to the Ramayana Path. Officials envision that the initiative will attract more visitors and establish Punauradham as a major site of pilgrimage and cultural heritage in the country.
With the ongoing efforts, better amenities will be made available for lakhs of devotees visiting Punauradham, contributing to the region’s overall economic and cultural growth. The project aligns with Bihar’s broader goals of boosting tourism and preserving its rich heritage.
