Patna: Bihar’s rich cultural heritage is in the spotlight as 40 unique items from the state are now part of the Prime Minister’s Souvenirs e-auction. The collection includes Madhubani paintings, Sikki art, and other artworks inspired by local mythology, festivals, customs, and traditions. These pieces reflect the vibrant and colourful artistic styles of Bihar and are created by local women and artisans, keeping centuries-old traditions alive. The auction allows the public to view and bid for these items online at pmmementos.gov.in until October 2, 2025.
The Prime Minister’s Memento e-auction, organised by the Ministry of Culture through the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi, has been running since 2019. Each year, gifts presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi—ranging from folk art and handicrafts to sports memorabilia—are auctioned. The proceeds from these auctions support the Namami Gange project, which focuses on cleaning and preserving the sacred river Ganga. This year, Bihar’s contributions are highlighted, reflecting the state’s artistic skill and deep cultural roots.
Among the most remarkable items is a Madhubani painting depicting Lord Krishna and the Gopis, celebrating divine love, joy, and harmony. Other works include a Mithila painting of a woman holding a lotus and a Shiva Lingam, and a coin art frame of Lord Rama and Sita, shown in golden hues against a dark background. Each piece demonstrates the skill and craftsmanship of Bihar’s artists, preserving traditional stories and artistic techniques for future generations.
Officials say the e-auction not only promotes Bihar’s folk art but also supports the artisans and communities behind it. By giving these artworks national attention, the scheme helps preserve India’s cultural heritage while providing an opportunity for people to own unique pieces of art. For art lovers and collectors, this auction is a chance to appreciate Bihar’s living traditions and contribute to a meaningful cause.
