Patna: Bihar Assembly’s monsoon session will be held from July 20 to July 24, with the state government scheduled to present a supplementary budget on the opening day. The five-day session is expected to witness sharp exchanges between the ruling alliance and the opposition over a range of political and governance-related issues.
The supplementary budget will be presented for the first time since Samrat Choudhary assumed office as Chief Minister. Alongside the budget, the government is also expected to introduce several bills and conduct regular legislative business, including Question Hour and Zero Hour.
Supplementary Budget to Be Tabled on Opening Day
The first day of the session will focus on the presentation of the supplementary budget and the introduction of legislative proposals.
The House is also expected to discuss departmental matters during Question Hour and Zero Hour, while the government is likely to outline the progress of its welfare schemes and administrative initiatives.
Bharat Tiwari Encounter Likely to Dominate Debate
The opposition is expected to raise the Bharat Tiwari encounter case during the session.
The incident has generated political debate, with leaders within the ruling alliance expressing differing views on the police action. A judicial inquiry into the encounter is currently underway, and the opposition is likely to seek answers from the government on the matter.
Rabri Devi Residence Issue May Return to Assembly
Another issue expected to feature prominently is the government notice concerning the official residence of Rabri Devi.
The Building Construction Department had issued a notice directing the residence to be vacated. Following the development, the family of Lalu Prasad is in the process of shifting to a residence in Kautilya Nagar.
Security Cover Decision May Face Questions
The opposition may also question the government’s decision regarding the security cover provided to Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.
Their security was earlier downgraded during the dispute over the government residence before being restored to Z-category protection. Opposition parties are expected to seek clarification on the sequence of decisions.
Other Issues Expected to Be Raised
The opposition is also likely to bring up the Rishu Shree case and allegations related to irregularities in government department tenders. Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
In addition, issues such as corruption, law and order, and other political developments are expected to feature prominently during the five-day session, setting the stage for a contentious monsoon sitting of the Bihar Legislature.
