Patna: More than 80% of the candidates selected for Assistant Professor posts in Bihar’s 211 newly established degree colleges are residents of the state, according to the Bihar State University Service Commission.
Of the 2,451 candidates selected, 1,980 are from Bihar. The recruitment was conducted through an all-India selection process.
Bihar State University Service Commission Chairman Prof. Girish Kumar Chaudhary said the high number of Bihar candidates selected demonstrates the impact of the state’s reservation provisions and the strong participation of local candidates.
Recruitment Process Completed In Around 30 Days
The recruitment process for Assistant Professors in the newly established degree colleges began in the first week of July.
According to the Commission, 6,939 candidates were called for interviews, following which 2,451 candidates were selected for appointment on a contractual basis.
The interview results were published on August 1. The Commission said the entire process, from issuing the recruitment advertisement to publishing the final merit list, was completed in approximately 30 days.
Reservation Rules Benefited Bihar Candidates
Prof. Chaudhary explained that under Bihar’s prevailing reservation policy, 60% of the seats are reserved for Backward Classes, Extremely Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Economically Weaker Sections.
These reservation benefits are available to candidates who are residents of Bihar.
The remaining 40% unreserved seats also include horizontal reservation provisions, including 35% for women, 4% for persons with disabilities and 2% for dependents of freedom fighters.
According to the Commission Chairman, these provisions mean that at least 76% of candidates selected through the regular recruitment process are expected to be Bihar residents.
Three Cases Faced Issues During Document Verification
The Commission also provided details of three cases that came up during the recruitment process.
The joining of Rajesh Kumar Yadav was not accepted during document verification at Lalit Narayan Mithila University after an incorrect reservation-category certificate was reportedly found.
Similarly, the joining of Hema Kumari, selected for Hindi, was rejected during the verification process.
In another case, 16 women candidates were selected on merit under the EWS category for Economics. The Commission clarified that their inclusion in the merit list was in accordance with the applicable rules and based on merit.
Appointments Can Be Cancelled For Incorrect Documents
The Commission has warned that document verification will remain an important part of the appointment process.
Prof. Chaudhary said that even after appointment, if a candidate is found to have submitted incorrect information or forged documents, the appointment can be cancelled immediately in accordance with the rules.
The Commission said the verification process is aimed at maintaining transparency and ensuring that only eligible candidates are appointed to the newly established degree colleges.
