Patna: Bihar’s secondary school examinations will be conducted under heightened digital surveillance this year, with artificial intelligence deployed to detect impersonation and forged documents, the state’s education authorities have said.
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) announced that the intermediate (Class 12) examinations will begin on February 1, followed by the matriculation (Class 10) exams from February 17. Officials say extensive measures have been put in place to ensure transparency and prevent malpractice.
Police personnel and administrative officials will be stationed at examination centres across the state, while CCTV cameras will monitor premises in real time from a central control room. The board has made it clear that negligence or unfair practices will not be tolerated.
According to the BSEB, the entire examination process — from online registration to the declaration of results — has been integrated into a digital system to reduce the scope for irregularities. Students will be barred from carrying mobile phones, cameras, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches or any other electronic gadgets into examination halls.
A key feature of this year’s arrangements is the use of artificial intelligence to verify candidates’ identities. The technology will be used to detect forged certificates, impersonation and repeat attempts to sit examinations under altered identities.
“There have been instances in the past where candidates appeared using fake documents or sent substitutes to write exams on their behalf,” officials said. “AI-based verification will help identify such cases quickly and accurately.”
The board’s chairperson, Anand Kishore, said certificates dating back to 1985–86 could now be verified digitally. “The system matches names, dates of birth, signatures, addresses and Aadhaar data,” he said. “This ensures greater transparency, faster processing and immediate detection of irregularities.”
Education officials believe the new measures will strengthen public confidence in the examination process and mark a significant shift towards technology-driven governance in Bihar’s school system.
