Vaishali: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the newly built Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Smriti Stupa in Vaishali on 29 July. The event will see Buddhist monks and followers from 15 countries gather in Bihar, shining an international spotlight on the state’s rich Buddhist heritage. This grand structure aims to revive the spiritual importance of Vaishali and promote it as a global tourist destination.
The stupa has been built using pink stones brought from Rajasthan and is designed to be eco-friendly. Spread over 72 acres, it brings together Buddhist art, philosophy, and nature. One of the main attractions is the sacred Asthi Kalash – the bone relic of Lord Buddha – which was found during an excavation of an ancient mud stupa in Vaishali. The Archaeological Survey of India has confirmed its authenticity.
On social media, Nitish Kumar said he is pleased to announce the inauguration of the stupa, and highlighted the importance of Buddhist monks and followers visiting from around the world. He added that this project reflects the identity of Bihar and its deep-rooted connection to Lord Buddha.
The new stupa is expected to boost tourism in Vaishali and create jobs for local people. With this project, Bihar hopes to strengthen its place on the international Buddhist circuit and attract visitors seeking peace, history, and culture.
