Buxar: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has begun work on a master plan to redevelop a key stretch of the Ganga riverbank in Buxar, in what officials describe as a major upgrade to the town’s public infrastructure. The project aims to transform around 1.25 kilometres of riverfront into a connected and accessible civic space, complete with permanent ghats, walkways and modern amenities.
At present, most visitors and devotees congregate at Ramrekha Ghat, leading to overcrowding during festivals and special occasions. Under the proposed plan, development will extend from Ahilya Ghat in Ahirauli to the confluence of the Thora river, bringing multiple ghats under a single integrated design.
The project includes the construction of concrete steps at key river access points, pedestrian pathways along the waterfront and plain cement concrete roads to improve connectivity. Plans also feature seating areas and modern cafeterias aimed at making the riverbank more accessible not only for pilgrims but also for residents and tourists. The initiative, long discussed in official documents, has now moved into the implementation stage.
BUIDCO has invited applications from experienced agencies to prepare a detailed project report (DPR), which must be submitted within three months of selection. Once approved, the DPR will pave the way for fund allocation and the start of construction.
In addition to Ramrekha Ghat, sites such as Siddhnath Ghat, Gola Ghat, Rani Ghat and Bangla Ghat are set to receive permanent steps and landscaped pathways. Officials say linking these ghats will help distribute crowds more evenly and create a continuous riverside experience from Jail Ghat to Ahirauli.
