Patna: Bihar’s digital self-enumeration drive under the Census of India 2027 has recorded strong public participation within days of its launch, with more than 3.69 lakh households engaging in the process so far.
Officials said that as of April 20, a total of 369,779 households had participated in self-enumeration, of which 323,879 have completed the process, while 45,900 have initiated it.
High Participation Across Districts
The early response indicates widespread public engagement, with districts such as Vaishali, Khagaria and Madhubani emerging as top contributors.
Vaishali alone accounted for over 87,000 households, followed by Khagaria (over 50,000) and Madhubani (nearly 50,000). Other districts such as Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga and Patna also reported significant participation.
Push Towards Digital Census
The self-enumeration initiative, launched on April 17, is aimed at making the census process more streamlined, transparent and technology-driven.
Officials said awareness campaigns have played a key role in encouraging citizens to participate, and the momentum is expected to grow further in the coming days.
Timeline And Next Phase
The self-enumeration process will remain open until May 1, allowing households to submit their details through the official portal using mobile phones or computers.
From May 2 to May 31, the next phase — house-listing and housing census — will be conducted, during which enumerators will visit households across the state.
Residents who have completed self-enumeration have been advised to share their unique SE ID with enumerators to facilitate accurate data matching.
Foundation For Policy Planning
Officials said census data plays a critical role in shaping government policies related to infrastructure, welfare schemes and resource allocation.
The strong initial response, they added, reflects growing public acceptance of digital governance initiatives and could help improve the efficiency of the nationwide census exercise.
