Patna: A heated confrontation unfolded in the Bihar Legislative Council during the budget session after MLC Sunil Singh alleged that Minister Ashok Choudhary possessed a fake degree, triggering sharp exchanges and calls for restraint within the House.
Singh’s allegation provoked an immediate and angry response from Choudhary, who stood up and demanded that the MLC either substantiate the claim or resign. The atmosphere in the House grew tense as members raised their voices and the debate veered away from the scheduled agenda.
As the situation escalated, senior minister Vijay Choudhary intervened, urging members to maintain decorum. “It is not appropriate to accuse anyone without documentation. This is not the norm. Such allegations should be removed from the House proceedings,” he said, seeking to calm tempers.
Singh, however, persisted. Rising again, he alleged that an officer had written a letter claiming a bribe was demanded and said he would table the relevant documents before the House.
Responding sharply, Ashok Choudhary said Singh’s intention was not to seek answers but to target him personally. “Sunil Kumar Singh’s intention is not to seek an answer to the question, but to target me. His understanding has gone haywire,” he said.
The exchange came amid an already charged atmosphere on the 12th day of the Bihar Assembly’s budget session. In a separate intervention, JD(U) MLA Vinay Choudhary launched an attack on the RJD and its leader Tejashwi Yadav.
“The public has dealt a blow to the RJD,” Vinay Choudhary said, alleging that Tejashwi Yadav had entered the House “wobbly”. He added: “No one walks into the House wobbly after suffering a leg injury. We had requested that Tejashwi undergo a medical examination, but he ran away.”
The sharp exchanges underscored the increasingly combative tone of the ongoing budget session, with both treasury and opposition benches trading allegations and counter-allegations on the floor of the House.
