Patna: The Bihar government’s Industry Department has initiated construction of a Khadi Mall cum Urban Haat in Sarmohanpur, Darbhanga, at an estimated cost of Rs 29.31 crore. Spread across five acres, the project is expected to be completed within one and a half years and create direct and indirect employment for around 1,200 people.
The complex will feature a Khadi Experiential Center alongside Urban Haat, making it the first of its kind in the state. Currently, khadi malls are operational in Patna and Muzaffarpur, while work is ongoing in Purnia.
Once complete, the mall will house a rooftop restaurant, food court, Urban Haat Memorial, and beautification of the adjoining pond. Local entrepreneurs and artisans will have access to sell their products, while the management will also procure khadi from producers and facilitate sales.
Alongside khadi garments, the marketplace will showcase locally made artworks, paintings, and handicrafts. Officials believe the project will not only increase the consumption of khadi but also provide a direct platform for local artists and craftspeople to reach customers.
