Patna: Bihar’s Director General of Police, Vinay Kumar, said on Thursday that the state has drawn up a list of 1,600 people allegedly involved in accumulating illegal wealth running into crores through organised crime. The list includes land mafia, sand mafia and several high-profile criminals.
Speaking to reporters, the DGP said certified documents had been prepared against each individual and the full dossier had been submitted to the court. “We are awaiting court orders. Their properties will be confiscated as soon as permission is granted,” he said.
The announcement comes amid a wider crackdown on criminal activity following Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s assumption of charge as home minister. Chaudhary has directed police to intensify action against organised gangs and repeat offenders, calling it part of a “major campaign” to restore law and order.
Anti–eve-teasing squads to be deployed
The DGP also revealed that a specialised anti–eve-teasing squad would be launched to curb harassment outside schools and colleges. To support the initiative, the police are procuring 2,000 scooters (scooty) that will be deployed for patrolling educational zones.
“Police will patrol outside schools and colleges on scooters to ensure no complaints of eve-teasing are received,” he said. The squads will remain posted even during school holidays to ensure continuity of monitoring.

Jail surveillance to be tightened
The home minister also said that stricter surveillance will be enforced inside jails, including monitoring mobile phone access and food delivery systems. “A special force will be deployed outside schools and colleges to ensure no ‘Romeos’ roam around. Jail monitoring will also be strengthened,” Chaudhary said.
He added that action would be taken against anyone involved in online abuse or harassment on social media.
Additional list under preparation
Chaudhary said the government is preparing another list of mafia and habitual offenders. “A list of 400 people is ready. Applications have been made to the court for confiscation. Permission has been granted for two individuals. Once further approvals arrive, property seizure will continue,” he said.
The government says the measures are part of a broader effort to send a strong message against criminal activity in the state.
