Patna: The Bihar government has released Rs 6.60 crore during the current financial year to expand the Chief Minister Digital Health Scheme across the state. The Health Department said the scheme, which was first implemented in Nalanda and Muzaffarpur, is now being extended to additional districts in a phased manner.
The project has an overall allocation of Rs 300 crore, of which Rs 175.11 crore has already been released.
Electronic Health Records to Streamline Treatment
The scheme aims to make healthcare services in government hospitals fully digital and paperless through the creation of electronic health records for patients.
Once implemented, doctors will be able to access a patient’s complete medical history, previous consultations and treatment records with a single click. The Health Department said this will simplify diagnosis and improve the continuity of care.
Patients No Longer Need to Carry Medical Records
Under the digital health system, patients will not be required to carry previous prescriptions or medical reports when visiting government hospitals.
Doctors will be able to retrieve medical records online and begin treatment without waiting for physical documents. The department said this is expected to reduce delays and improve the quality of healthcare services.
Telemedicine Services to Reach Rural Areas
The scheme also includes strengthening telemedicine facilities to improve access to specialist healthcare in remote and rural areas.
Patients will be able to consult specialist doctors online from healthcare facilities closer to their homes. The department added that the attendance of doctors and healthcare workers in government hospitals will also be monitored through digital systems.
Scheme Launched in 2022
The Chief Minister Digital Health Scheme was launched in 2022. According to the Health Department, the remaining key components of the project are expected to be completed during the current financial year.
Officials said the development of digital infrastructure in government hospitals has reached its final stage.
Bihar Highlights Progress in Digital Health
The Health Department said Bihar is among the leading states in implementing electronic health records and QR code-based OPD registration under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
According to the department, the Central Government has recognised Bihar’s performance in digital health implementation and has provided incentive funds for its achievements.
