Patna: The Bihar government is set to undertake a statewide verification of land records belonging to government schools, colleges and other educational institutions, with plans to appoint retired officials on a contractual basis to oversee the process.
Under the initiative, the education department will appoint one real estate officer at the state headquarters and 31 assistant real estate officers across regional offices. Officials said preparations for the recruitment process have been completed, with appointments expected to begin in April.
A senior department official said the move aims to ensure proper compilation, verification and preservation of land records associated with educational institutions. The appointed officers will also help facilitate timely land availability for future development projects within the education sector.
The real estate officer will hold a position equivalent to that of a retired additional collector, while assistant real estate officers will be appointed at a level similar to retired circle officers. Applicants must not be older than 62 years as of March 1, 2026, with appointments set for a three-year term, extendable up to the age of 65.
The posts will be filled on an honorarium basis, in line with guidelines set by the general administration department.
The recruitment will follow reservation norms. The position of real estate officer is reserved for the extremely backward class category. Among the 31 assistant real estate officer posts, allocations include three for scheduled caste candidates, one for scheduled tribe, seven for extremely backward class, five for backward class, one for backward class women, four for economically weaker sections and 10 for unreserved candidates.
Officials added that applicants must have a clean service record, with no pending vigilance or departmental cases, and no criminal convictions or serious charges against them.
The initiative is expected to strengthen land governance in the education sector and support future infrastructure expansion across Bihar.
