Patna: Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday in a brief but closely watched 18-minute meeting, signalling high-stakes discussions on election strategy ahead of the state polls. The closed-door meeting, attended only by the two leaders, has drawn attention as political observers speculate on the NDA’s plans in the run-up to voting.
Following the meeting, Shah is scheduled to travel to Chhapra, where he will address a public rally at the Taraiya sports ground. His visit to Bihar will continue until October 18, during which he is expected to participate in a series of programs and further outline strategies for the NDA. Reports suggest Shah may also review the next phase of candidate nominations and deliver an election-focused message on the final day of his stay.
Shah also commented on the question of the NDA’s chief ministerial candidate. In an interview with media, he emphasised that the elections are being contested under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, describing the incumbent as a leader “fully trusted not only by the BJP but also by the people of Bihar.” He added that the legislative party would determine the Chief Minister after the elections, clarifying the party’s position on the issue.
Meanwhile, the BJP has confirmed it will contest 101 seats in Bihar, with candidates finalised for all constituencies. The party has also compiled a list of 40 star campaigners, including Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president J.P. Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Amit Shah, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
