Patna: As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly Elections, first-time voters are being encouraged to prepare carefully before heading to the polls. The first phase of voting will be held on November 6, covering 121 assembly constituencies across 18 districts. Campaigning officially ended at 6 p.m. on November 4, with candidates now limited to door-to-door canvassing.

For those casting their vote for the first time, here’s a guide to checking your name on the voter list, locating your polling booth, and understanding the dos and don’ts of election day.
How to check your name on the voter list
- Visit electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
- Click on “Search in Electoral Roll.”
- Enter your details — name, father’s name, gender, state (Bihar), and district.
- Click Search.
If your name appears, your full details will be displayed. You can also search directly using your EPIC number (Voter ID number).
How to download your digital voter ID (e-EPIC)
- Go to nvsp.in or voters.eci.gov.in.
- Select “Download e-EPIC.”
- Enter your EPIC number or registered mobile number.
- Verify the OTP and log in.
- Download and save the e-EPIC PDF, which is valid as a digital voter ID.
How to find your polling station
- Visit electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
- Enter your EPIC number under the “Know Your Polling Station” section.
Your booth number, address, and assembly constituency details will appear on the screen. Alternatively, you can use the Voter Helpline App for the same information.
Tips for first-time voters
- Carry your voter ID or any other valid photo identification.
- Do not use mobile phones or cameras inside the polling booth.
- Check your booth and serial number in advance to avoid confusion.
- Pay close attention to the party symbols on the EVM before pressing the button.
- After voting, ensure the indelible ink mark is applied to your finger.
For returning voters
Even if you have voted before, it’s important to verify your name on the voter list and confirm your polling station in advance. Following the ECI’s guidelines helps ensure your vote is cast smoothly, securely, and legally.
