Patna: As Bihar prepares for the first phase of its 2025 assembly elections on Thursday, the state has been placed on high alert. Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP), Vinay Kumar, has directed law enforcement to detain anyone found attempting to incite violence or disrupt public order under preventive detention laws.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kumar emphasised that such individuals will remain in custody until the conclusion of the polling process and will only be released after signing a stringent bond. “Anyone trying to create disturbance or instigate violence during the elections will face immediate arrest,” the DGP said, adding that the state police are operating round-the-clock from a central control room to monitor developments across Bihar.
To ensure a peaceful voting process, the DGP confirmed the deployment of substantial paramilitary forces. Around 1,500 personnel have been stationed across the state in three phases, with an additional 150 deployed in the last week to strengthen security in districts scheduled for the second phase of voting. “Strict checking will continue in all districts,” Kumar stated, noting that emergency helpline Dial 112 has been fully activated, and officials are on standby to address public complaints promptly.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance approach toward violence, Kumar warned that “those brandishing guns will not be spared at any cost.” He further added that individuals spreading abusive or inflammatory content on social media have been identified and will soon face legal action.
