Patna: Political activity has intensified across Bihar as major alliances scramble to finalise seat-sharing arrangements ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. On Saturday, sources indicated that Tejashwi Yadav may travel to Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi and finalise the deal between the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress.
The Grand Alliance and the NDA are yet to formally announce their seat-sharing plans, even as nominations for the first phase are already underway. Discussions have gained momentum following a phone conversation between Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that a breakthrough may be imminent.
Within the Grand Alliance, the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) or CPI(ML) has reportedly come out in support of Mukesh Sahni, urging allies to allot him a fair number of seats. Sahni, the leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), is considered an influential figure among Nishad voters in Bihar.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) core group held a crucial meeting with the high command, attended by JP Nadda and Amit Shah, to finalise the NDA’s candidate list. BJP’s Bihar president Dilip Jaiswal had earlier said the alliance’s seat-sharing formula would be announced by Saturday evening or Sunday morning. However, a tweet from ally Upendra Kushwaha hinted that negotiations were still ongoing.
In other developments, Suraj Bhan Singh, the strongman from Mokama, and his family are expected to join the RJD, leaving Pashupati Paras’s RLSP, possibly strengthening RJD’s Bhumihar base. The JDU, on its part, is bringing back former MP Arun Kumar to consolidate support within the same community.
Adding to the political drama, Prashant Kishor of Jan Suraj launched his campaign in Raghopur, Tejashwi Yadav’s home constituency, while Mishrilal Yadav, MLA from Alinagar, announced his resignation from the BJP.
