Patna: Authorities have seized Rs 17,60,000 cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from Assistant Engineer Nagendra Kumar of Bihar’s Rural Works Department, after registering a case for assets 125.69% higher than his declared income, totaling Rs 73.32 lakh.
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau conducted coordinated raids at Nagendra’s rented flat in North Srikrishnapuri, Patna, his office in Mokama, and his property in Kujaap village, Gayaji district. Officials also recovered passbooks from seven banks, original land deeds, agreements related to construction projects, receipts from Life Insurance Corporation investments, a Hyundai, a Maruti car, and a TVS motorcycle.
Investigators said the documents indicate landholdings and construction ventures in Bihar and Odisha, possibly operated in partnership. The probe is ongoing, and more cases may be filed as evidence is analysed.
The raid is part of broader vigilance efforts against alleged corruption in Bihar’s Rural Works Department, following similar investigations targeting engineers and senior officials in recent weeks.
