Patna: Bihar is set to develop its first Special Economic Zone (SEZ), with the state government approving a 250-acre project designed to boost industrial activity and attract investment. The plan includes two SEZs of 125 acres each, with land already identified in Bettiah and Buxar.
Industry minister Dilip Jaiswal said the government is “serious and committed” to moving the projects forward, with a combined investment of Rs 225 crore. The industry department is finalising a detailed action plan, and officials say future SEZs will be modelled on the two now being developed.
The central government recently approved the establishment of the Kumarbagh SEZ in West Champaran and the Nawanagar SEZ in Buxar. The Kumarbagh zone is expected to cost around Rs 116 crore, while the Nawanagar project carries an estimated cost of Rs 109 crore.
