Patna: The Bihar government has approved a major road infrastructure package under the Bihar State Highway IV Project, with plans to upgrade and widen more than 266 kilometres of roads across the state at an estimated cost of Rs 3,743.655 crore.
The approval was granted during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The details were shared by Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department.
The projects cover five key road corridors in north and south Bihar and are aimed at improving connectivity, transport efficiency and regional access.
List of Approved Highway Projects
The Madhubani–Rajnagar–Babubarhi–Khutouna Road, spanning 38.872 kilometres, will be widened at an estimated cost of Rs 632.72 crore.
The SH-52 Sitamarhi–Pupri–Benipatti Road project covers around 51.261 kilometres and has been approved at a cost of Rs 435.37 crore.
The SH-97 Bishanpur–Atarbel (NH-57)–Jale–Ghogharchatti (SH-52) Road, measuring approximately 47.875 kilometres, will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 990.035 crore.
The SH-92 Ganpatganj–Parwaha Road project includes improvement work on a 47.432-kilometre stretch with an estimated expenditure of Rs 703.95 crore.
Another major project includes the Brahampur–Kornasarai–Itarhi–Saranja–Itarhi (Buxar) and Ujiarpur–Kukraha–Jamuanv–Indore–Samda Road corridor. The combined stretch of around 80.728 kilometres will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 982.58 crore.
Focus on Connectivity and Regional Development
Officials said the projects are expected to strengthen inter-district connectivity and improve transportation infrastructure in several regions of Bihar. The road upgrades are also likely to support movement of goods and reduce travel time for commuters.
The Bihar State Highway IV Project forms part of the state government’s broader push to expand and modernise transport infrastructure.
Irrigation and Flood Protection Measures Also Approved
Apart from the highway projects, the cabinet also approved the release of Rs 102.98 crore for the Kosi Irrigation Scheme and flood protection works.
According to officials, canal modernisation work in Madhubani district will improve irrigation facilities across nearly 89,000 hectares of agricultural land.
The government has also approved strengthening of embankments in Madhubani and Supaul districts to improve flood protection measures in vulnerable areas.
