Patna: Floods in Bihar have claimed over 26 lives in the last two days, with drowning incidents reported from several districts. Rising water levels in the Ganga and Kosi rivers have created dangerous conditions, leading to a series of tragedies.
On Sunday, at least 13 people died due to drowning in Banka, Begusarai, Munger, Bhagalpur and Kosi-Seemanchal areas. Victims included three children swept away by the Chandan river in Banka, two sisters who fell into a drain in Jehanabad, and two cousins who drowned while bathing in a pond in Siwan.
Monday saw at least 12 more deaths. In Khagaria, a young brother and sister visiting their grandmother died in floodwaters, and their funeral was held together. In Munger, a girl named Sonam Kumari drowned while trying to reach higher ground, a three-year-old boy died while playing in floodwater, and an elderly man died after falling from a boat. Other deaths were reported from Bhagalpur and Saharsa.
Officials said some people are still missing after being swept away, and the death toll may rise. Residents are urging authorities to improve safety measures in flood-hit areas to prevent further loss of life.
