Patna: Bihar’s rural roads are expanding quickly with the support of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The Rural Works Department says the project is almost complete and is helping villages connect more easily to nearby towns and cities.
In 2023, the state approved the construction of 2,024 rural roads. So far, 1,857 roads have been completed, covering more than 4,822 km out of the 5,251 km target. Out of 1,234 planned bridges, 900 have been built, and work is still going on for the rest.
Nalanda district has made the most progress, completing over 370 km of roads. Gaya has finished more than 365 km, and Patna has built over 329 km. Other districts like Aurangabad, Darbhanga, East Champaran and Munger have also built hundreds of kilometres of rural roads.
Officials say the new roads and bridges will make travel easier, improve access to markets and services, and help strengthen the rural economy.
