Patna: In a gesture for Raksha Bandhan, the Bihar government has announced that women and girls will be able to travel for free on select government buses on August 9. This decision, aimed at providing convenience to women on the festival, will apply to Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) city buses and the pink buses operating in various cities.
The free travel facility will be available from 6 a.m. to late evening on Friday, August 9. According to an official statement from BSRTC, women traveling on these city buses across the state will not be required to purchase a ticket. However, male passengers will still need to buy tickets as usual.
Providing free travel for women on Raksha Bandhan has become a tradition for the state government in recent years. This year, the initiative is not limited to Bihar, as several other states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chandigarh, have also implemented similar free travel policies for women on the festival.
