Patna: A new centre for science and learning, named after former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, is set to open in Patna by the end of this month. Called the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Science City, the project is being developed near Moin-ul-Haq Stadium across 20.5 acres of land. The Building Construction Department is overseeing the final preparations.
The science city will have five galleries: Be a Scientist, Basic Science, Sustainable Planet, Space and Astronomy, and Body and Mind. These galleries will include 269 interactive exhibits based on different science topics. In the first phase, 47 exhibits are being installed in two galleries – 12 in the Be a Scientist Gallery and 35 in the Basic Science Gallery. These include topics like artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis, and the golden ratio.
The project also includes a large auditorium with 500 seats, a 4D theatre, dormitory facilities for 150 students and teachers, and a multipurpose hall. A selfie point, digital panels, murals, cafeteria, clean toilets, and parking spaces are also being prepared to give visitors a pleasant experience. Officials say the science city will help make science more interesting and accessible to people of all ages.
Building Construction Department Secretary Kumar Ravi said that civil work has been completed and exhibit installation is progressing well. The science city is expected to become a major attraction for students, teachers, and tourists from across the state and beyond.
