Patna: StateWater Resources Department Secretary Dr Chandrashekhar Singh on Thursday inspected ongoing anti-erosion works along the Ganga river at Javania village in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district, near the Uttar Pradesh border.
During the visit, he reviewed the progress and quality of the works, as well as the department’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.
Villagers Share Concerns
The secretary interacted with local residents to understand their concerns, suggestions and expectations regarding riverbank erosion.
Villagers highlighted the challenges posed by the Ganga’s continuous erosion over the years and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing protection measures being undertaken in the area.

Rs. 52.56 Crore Riverbank Protection Project
Officials informed the secretary that erosion control works are being carried out over a stretch of approximately 1,200 metres along the right bank of the Ganga.
The project is aimed at protecting the villages of Gangapur, Bhusaula, Nandpur and Damodarpur (Javania) from riverbank erosion. The scheme has received administrative approval of Rs. 52.56 crore and is currently under implementation.
Completion Deadline Ahead of Monsoon
Dr Singh directed officials to accelerate the pace of work and ensure that all necessary resources are available in view of the monsoon’s sensitivity.
He instructed engineers and contractors to complete the erosion control measures within the next month and emphasised that quality standards should not be compromised while adhering to project timelines.
Protection for Vulnerable Villages
The secretary said the project would provide protection against Ganga erosion for Gangapur, Bhusaula, Nandpur, Javania and nearby villages in Shahpur block.
He added that the works are expected to help safeguard local communities as well as public infrastructure vulnerable to riverbank erosion.
Senior engineers, executive engineers, departmental officials and local public representatives were present during the inspection.
