Patna: The Bihar government has announced an aggressive package of incentives for semiconductor manufacturers, including land at a token price of Rs 1 per acre and exemptions from stamp duty and registration fees, in an effort to position the state as a destination for high-tech industrial investment.
The initiative, part of the state’s “New Age Industry” strategy, places particular emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing, which officials describe as central to future job creation and economic growth.
According to the Department of Industries, the policy will apply to semiconductor projects with investments of Rs 100 crore or more. Eligible companies will be allotted one acre of land for a nominal charge of Rs 1, alongside full waivers on stamp duty and registration costs.
The announcement follows a series of engagements between the state government and industry representatives at a recent AI summit in Delhi, where discussions focused on attracting investment into advanced technology sectors.
As part of the wider incentive framework, the government will also support intellectual property creation in the sector. Firms will be eligible for reimbursement of 75% of costs associated with filing and maintaining patents in India. A similar 75% reimbursement will apply to international patent filings across major jurisdictions including the United States, European Union, Japan and China.
In a further effort to build a local workforce, the state has pledged full reimbursement of training costs incurred by semiconductor companies, provided the trainees are residents of Bihar.
Additional concessions include subsidised electricity tariffs and the supply of untreated water at concessional rates for eligible units.
Officials say the package is intended to reduce operational costs for investors while accelerating the development of a skilled semiconductor ecosystem within the state.
