Patna: The new academic session in Bihar’s government elementary schools is set to begin in April, with authorities preparing to distribute textbooks to an estimated 13.3 million children across the state. The Education Department has directed that books for students in grades 1 to 8 be delivered between April 1 and 10.
A senior official from the Bihar State Textbook Publishing Corporation said that “kits” containing the required books have already been dispatched to all 38 districts and are being supplied to schools via the Cluster Resource Centers.
Over 13 million sets of textbooks have been prepared to meet the needs of students. The department reported that enrolment in grades 1 to 5 stands at 8,321,515, while grades 6 to 8 account for 5,051,769 pupils. Block Education Officers, working with headteachers and principals, will oversee the distribution of books to ensure that every child receives the required materials at the start of the session.
The initiative aims to prevent any disruption to students’ learning by ensuring textbooks are available from day one, with Cluster Resource Centers coordinating deliveries to schools across the state.
