Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Patna has issued a special weather bulletin warning of intense rainfall activity across Bihar over the next three days, raising concerns about possible flooding and disruption in low-lying areas.
According to the bulletin, several districts in the state experienced moderate to heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with isolated spots in Jamui, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, and Patna witnessing very heavy downpours. Gidhaur in Jamui recorded the highest rainfall at 19 mm, followed closely by Jhajha (18 mm) and Barhat (17 mm).
The rainfall is expected to intensify in the coming days, with the IMD forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in parts of northern Bihar, especially in Supaul, Madhubani, and Darbhanga. Districts such as Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea, Katihar, Bhagalpur, and Samastipur are likely to experience very heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The bulletin attributes the enhanced rainfall activity to an active monsoon trough stretching from northwest to northeast India, coupled with multiple cyclonic circulations over eastern India and adjoining areas.
Due to this meteorological setup, IMD warns of a potential rise in water levels of major rivers including the Ganges. There is a heightened risk of waterlogging and flash floods in vulnerable low-lying areas, which could severely impact daily life and local transport.
IMD Patna urges the public to stay informed through its official website, social media channels, and the “Mausam” mobile app.
