Rajgir: Bihar is set to make history by hosting the Hero Asia Cup 2025 for the very first time. The tournament will be played at the Rajgir Sports Complex from 29 August to 7 September, bringing top hockey teams from across Asia to the state.
The announcement was made in Patna, where Indian hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, coach Craig Fulton and senior officials of the Bihar State Sports Authority shared details. Harmanpreet said he was excited to play in Bihar and called the Rajgir turf “world-class”, adding that the team was ready to face tough competition from other Asian nations.
Teams from India, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei will take part in the competition. Entry for the public will be free, but tickets must be booked through the TicketGenie app starting 26 August.
To build excitement, several events will be organised during the tournament. On 30 August, children will get a chance to play with Indian team captain Harmanpreet Singh. On 31 August, a cycling event called “Sunday on Cycle” will promote fitness and awareness about the environment. The trophy tour, which started earlier this month, is already travelling through districts of Bihar and other states.
Officials said hosting the Asia Cup will not only promote sports in Bihar but also boost its image in tourism and culture. They added that the Rajgir Sports Complex, with its modern facilities, will inspire many young players in the state to take up hockey.
