Patna: Bihar’s Dial-112 helpline has provided emergency help to more than 43 lakh people since it started. This year alone, over 8 lakh citizens have received assistance through the service, police officials said on Monday.
ADG NK Azad told reporters in Patna that at present it takes an average of 14 minutes for police to reach the spot after a call. He said efforts are being made to reduce this time and improve location tracking with the help of mobile service providers.
Currently, 1,833 vehicles are connected to Dial-112, including 1,283 four-wheelers and 550 two-wheelers. Out of the calls made this year, six lakh were about law and order, one lakh related to domestic and sexual violence, 33,000 were about fire incidents and 43 were for ambulances.
Azad added that while only 10–15% of callers give feedback, around 90% of them are satisfied with the service. Plans are being made to collect feedback online from everyone. A special women’s safety service, started in September last year, has already helped more than 200 women during traffic movement.
