Muzaffarpur: A disturbing incident unfolded in Muzaffarpur on Sunday evening when a dog was spotted roaming near S.K. Memorial Hospital (SKMCH) with the body of a newborn in its mouth. The sight, witnessed by locals at around 5 pm, prompted immediate concern and outrage.
Residents quickly alerted the Ahiyapur police station, who arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to SKMCH for a post-mortem examination. Eyewitnesses said the dog carried the body into nearby bushes and appeared to scratch at it.
Several people recorded the incident on mobile phones, and the video circulated rapidly on social media, although its authenticity has not been independently verified by local media outlets. Shopkeepers in the vicinity suggested the newborn’s body had come from SKMCH before being carried away by the dog.
Authorities confirmed that the incident is under investigation. “A dog was found with the body of a newborn near SKMCH. Upon receiving information, the body was sent to the hospital for post-mortem. The matter is being investigated,” said Rohan Kumar, an officer at Ahiyapur police station.
Locals noted that this is reportedly the third such incident near the hospital in the past two years. CCTV footage from the area has captured the event, which may assist police in their inquiry.
