Patna: Bihar is set to induct 25 new Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the coming months, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and easing the workload on existing officials.
The incoming batch includes 11 officers recruited directly through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and 14 officers promoted from the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS).
Officials said the directly recruited officers, currently undergoing training, are expected to be deployed by April 2026, while those promoted to the IAS are likely to take up their postings by May or June.
The addition will increase the number of IAS officers serving in the state from 280 to 305, although the total sanctioned strength remains higher at 359. Around 30 officers from the Bihar cadre are currently on central deputation.
Authorities said the new appointments are expected to improve administrative efficiency and accelerate the pace of government work, particularly in districts facing staff shortages.
The directly recruited officers cleared the UPSC examination in 2025 and are currently undergoing training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. They are expected to report for duty in Bihar by mid-April, after which they will be assigned roles under the supervision of senior officials.
The cohort includes candidates from Bihar as well as other states, reflecting the all-India character of the service.
