Patna: Political activity in Bihar intensified on Sunday after Mokama MLA Anant Singh met chief minister Nitish Kumar and made claims suggesting a possible shift in the state’s leadership dynamics.
Anant Singh, who recently secured release from jail, visited the chief minister’s residence shortly after his release. Following the meeting, he told reporters that Nitish Kumar may soon resign from his position in the Bihar legislative council and move to the Rajya Sabha.
According to Anant Singh, the chief minister could step down from his MLC post as early as Monday and may take oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10.
Speaking about the meeting, Anant Singh said he had simply greeted Nitish Kumar and left, but indicated that discussions around his political future were ongoing.
When asked directly about the possibility of Nitish Kumar resigning, Anant Singh said it was likely and suggested that the decision could come soon.
He added that several people, including himself, want Nitish Kumar to continue in his current role, but claimed that the chief minister is not inclined to heed such advice at present.
The remarks have fuelled fresh speculation in Bihar’s political circles, though no official confirmation has been issued regarding any resignation or transition.
Observers note that any such move could have significant implications for the state’s political landscape, particularly with upcoming electoral considerations and shifting alliances.
