Patna: Rail infrastructure in Bihar’s Buxar region is set for a significant upgrade, with construction underway on a new bypass railway line and a station named Karma under the Danapur railway division.
The project, located near Dildarnagar, aims to enhance connectivity to key destinations including Ballia, Ghazipur and Varanasi. The proposed railway line will span approximately 11.8 kilometres and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Work on earth filling is currently in progress, with officials indicating that construction activity will gain pace after the completion of the Rabi harvest season.
A new station, Karma, is being developed around 1.5 kilometres north of Dildarnagar. It is expected to function as a future junction, allowing trains arriving from Ghazipur to split into multiple directions.
At present, trains coming from Ghazipur are required to reverse engines at Dildarnagar in order to proceed towards Buxar or Patna, causing delays and operational challenges. The new bypass line is expected to eliminate this requirement, enabling direct connectivity from Karma station to the Danapur–DDU main line via Bhadaura.
The project also includes plans for the construction of three rail overbridges near Dehwal village, aimed at easing both road and rail traffic movement in the area.
Officials say the new bypass will open up additional travel routes, including improved connectivity from Buxar to the Gaya–DDU line via Sasaram. It is also expected to enhance linkages through the Bihta–Daniyawan–Jhajha corridor, benefiting connectivity to Jharkhand and eastern India.
The development could further create opportunities for new train services to cities such as Mau, Jaunpur and Gorakhpur, while reducing congestion at Patna Junction by offering alternative routes for passengers.
However, a long-pending demand to connect Buxar to Ballia via Raghunathpur remains unresolved. Railway authorities are currently considering an alternative alignment near Jagjivan Halt, though it is reportedly longer and more expensive.
The ongoing project is seen as a key step in strengthening regional rail connectivity and easing travel across eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
