Patna: The bold Kajra solar energy project in Lakhisarai district—Bihar’s largest—has been rescheduled for completion by next month, significantly accelerating its original December 2025 deadline.
During a site inspection, Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh directed implementing agency L&T to complete the first phase by September 30, 2025. The facility will feature 185 MW of solar capacity coupled with a 254 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), positioned to deliver power during peak hours.
The second phase will add another 116 MW of solar generation and a 241 MWh BESS, bringing total storage capacity close to half a gigawatt—making it one of India’s largest solar-plus-storage installations.
Covering over 1,232 acres of land, the project is expected to ensure reliable, round-the-clock energy supply and reduce the region’s dependence on grid fluctuations. With over 2 lakh solar panels already installed and sustenance infrastructure in place, the ambitious initiative is viewed as a major step towards Bihar’s renewable energy goals and energy security.
State officials say the fast-tracked timeline reflects a renewed urgency in meeting Bihar’s sustainability and electricity needs under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The project is being monitored closely to ensure that ecological safeguards—such as vegetation preservation—are followed.
