Patna: In a major success under Operation Muskan, police have managed to recover and return 22,980 mobile phones lost or stolen over the past three years, restoring not just devices but also digital identities and personal memories.
Launched to address the growing number of mobile phone thefts and losses, the operation has brought smiles to thousands of faces. A total of 11,609 phones were recovered and returned to their rightful owners between January and December 2023. This was followed by 8,155 recoveries in 2024. So far in 2025, police have returned 3,216 mobile phones since January.
With mobile phones now an essential part of daily life, losing one can mean more than just losing a device—it’s often the loss of sensitive data, contacts, important documents, and cherished memories.
Recognising the operation’s growing impact, police headquarters have issued fresh guidelines to district units, instructing them to handle mobile theft and loss cases with priority. Each district’s performance is being closely monitored through consolidated reporting systems to ensure timely recovery and return.
