Patna: The Bihar government will soon establish a Sainik Welfare Corporation under the Directorate of Sainik Welfare to support ex-servicemen, their dependents, and widows of martyred soldiers. The announcement was made on Friday by Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Arvind Chaudhary during a welfare event in Patna.
Arvind, Sainik Welfare Centres are operational in 13 districts. The government plans to extend these centres to 12 more districts to ensure broader access to support and services.
At the event held at Albert Ekka Bhawan, 20 widows of martyred soldiers and dependent women from ex-servicemen families were provided automatic sewing machines and certificates after completing a ten-day training programme. The initiative was organised by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare in collaboration with the State Bank of India and NGO Nav Astitva.
Arvind told the women that mastering the skill of sewing would open up long-term livelihood opportunities, assuring them that they would “never face a shortage of work.” He urged them to consider forming collective sewing units, suggesting that even four hours of daily work could contribute to financial self-reliance.
He added that the establishment of the Sainik Welfare Corporation is expected within the next two months and is being executed under the direction of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The event was attended by senior officials including Brigadier Mrigendra Kumar, Director of the Sainik Welfare Directorate; Pallavi Priyadarshini, Chief Manager of the SBI Raj Bhavan branch; and Colonel Santosh Tripathi, Assistant Director of the Directorate.
Arvind directed officers to collect feedback from the participating women and organise more such training camps in future, highlighting the state’s commitment to making the families of fallen soldiers self-sufficient.
